Why Small Business Need To Use Google My Business

The idea of owning a business is simply to attract as many customers as possible, and of course, make significant sales. The emergence and popularity of the Internet has given businesses a larger and more open market to sell their goods and services, but the Internet changes almost every day.

New updates and upgrades are implemented to enable users, brands, and businesses get the most out of the Internet. For business owners, “Google My Business” is the latest update to Google home. This new update changes everything for business owners. GMB is a tool that promises to give your small business more visibility.

In the last decade, every brand/business was influenced by the growth of the Internet to own a website. The need for more visibility outside mainstream media stimulates business owners who use the Internet. However, it is worthy of note that a website might not give you that much visibility anymore. Digital marketers make use backlinks and other tools used for SEO to create more traffic for clients’ websites to top organic search, but with the development of Google My Business, backlinks and other SEO tools may not cut it anymore. Creating a website is cool but why would you create a website that Google might hide away? Owning a website is still important for any business; it is the business’s home on the Internet. It houses all of a brand’s products, services, contacts, and all of the other necessary information that a customer needs to identify a business and take action. Using good SEO will bring visitors to your website whenever they search, but with the new Google dominance, your website might be missing on the first page of the search, even with the highest amounts of backlinks. I’ll be giving you reasons why you should make use of GMB, and how failing to do so will affect the visibility of your business.

What Is Google My Business?

“GMB is a free tool that lets you manage how your business appears on Google Search and Maps. That includes adding your business name, location, and hours; monitoring and replying to customer reviews; adding photos; learning where and how people are searching for you, and more (Aja Frost, 2018).” GMB allows you to list your business in your online local directory. With the right SEO, your business is placed on the top of any search that includes your type of business or what you offer. If you list your business on GMB, it appears on Google search and Google maps. So, no matter the Google app a user makes use of when searching for a business type in the local directory, your business will appear on top of that search.
“So rather than having people go to your site when they reach that point – they built an entire platform for people to connect with businesses – one that they own (Shawn Joshi, 2019).” GMB now makes it easier for people to find details of your business without them leaving the first page. These details are spread across all of Google search engines. Google My Business has all the necessary tools that are needed to create high visibility for your business. People in need of a particular product or service within a particular geographical area can easily get your business address and contact information with GMB. With Google My Business, customers can quickly add reviews about your services. It allows you to also respond and upload images of your business. You may own a fancy website that loads in less than 2 seconds, but without listing your business on Google My Business, you can not compete in local search. I’ll write more about that in the next section. As mentioned earlier, the desire of any business owner is to make profit as much as possible, and seizing every opportunity to make profit is the only way. Google My Business will place you ahead of every other business person in your locality with lesser effort. The tedious task of appearing on organic search would then be eliminated; SEO and backlinks won’t matter much anymore.

The Google Dominance

Google is slowly taking over the entire Internet. Call it a monopoly, but it’s happening and we can’t fight that. Google is succeeding in providing users with every tool that is needed on the Internet. Google might soon create a mainstream social media platform to complete the circle and it’ll have enough tools to compete with the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

For your website articles and web pages to rank high on Google organic search, you need to adhere strictly to SEO rules by using keywords that users include in their search. Also, with high backlinks, web pages would usually find their way to the top of any search. Nonetheless, this method of gaining visibility is changing at a fast pace. Google has reduced the way it serves search results to its users; no click search is becoming more prioritized that organic search.

“Google has been de-prioritizing organic search results in favor of ads and what are known as “No Click Searches (Shawn Joshi, 2019).”

Google have learnt how to keep users on their page. This involves providing them with their search results on the search page. Websites now only get expanded for more details, except that, websites rarely get clicks from Google anymore. Organic search results are being relegated, as paid CTRs now top the list of any Google search. In the past, with the right SEO and backlinks, your content/website is certain to appear on top of any Google search that use your keywords, but with the rise of a more unitary Google system, organic search are becoming obsolete.

The no-click search from Google gives users value real-quick, thereby increasing productivity by reducing the time that would have been spent on a search.

If your business only depends on a website for visibility, then your business may never get it. Organic searches are now far and away below GMB listings and paid CTRs, and there’s nothing SEO and backlinks will do to help bring you back up.

“Business owners who rely on traffic from search engines previously just had to worry about the growing prominence of ads – as Google pushed organic results lower and lower on the page (Shawn Joshi, 2019).”

The above-quoted proves that your articulated business pitches with good SEO and touchpoint all over the Internet may still never reach its potential.

The interesting thing in all of these is that your organic search on the Internet does not reduce. Even though your website keeps recording a low amount of visits daily, it does not mean that large people of Internet users are not searching for your business online. Backlinks and other great SEO tools will do a job for visibility but the new Google dominance has changed that.

Why You Should List Your Business In Google My Business

Local Visibility

When Internet users search for a business using localized keywords that relate to the business, Google provides users with a list of businesses in that area. The search result is tailored to the keywords that is inputted in the search bar.

Imagine you own a small bakery in Houston, TX. Whenever a person around Houston searches for a bakery or uses any other keyword that relates to bakery, Google serves your bakery on the top of the search results to the user. The user then gets your business contact and is able to take action on your business. This would only happen if you’ve already included your business in GMB listing.

(Shawn Joshi, 2019).”

Investing in backlinks on different web pages all over the Internet would not help when it comes to local business listing; it still does not mean you should not allow for backlinks whenever you need to.
